In defense of DEI by Wajahat Ali and Yusuf Zakir

I first saw this quote at the beginning of the horror that is 2025. In School Library Journal, of all places. In that context, it served as a slogan for those of us who try to ensure that all students have both a mirror of their own lives, and a window into the lives of their peers. But the original Guardian article was about the global economy and what businesses need to do to succeed.

Five years ago this weekend in the middle of Covid a man died. I'm wondering as I puzzle over how to phrase this fact if it would have had the same impact on a normal year. But of course 2020 wasn't a normal year and the world was stopped for two months and this time, everyone paid attention.
